  • As a solo artist, they released a digital fusion EP called tiger & water. They’ve additionally freelanced for indie games, including the unreleased game Cryamore—their music demos caught the attention of both Nintendo and Cartoon Network.
  • In addition to composing and supervising music for Ikenfell, they started the game’s sensitivity editing team.
  • From 2010 to present day, they’ve been teaching piano to children and teens at a local music school, with emphasis on self expression and personal taste.

Aivi grew up surrounded by the sounds of music—vinyl records, MTV, cassette tapes of children’s songs. They begged for piano lessons at age 5 and discovered a love for playing video game songs by ear. At age 10, Aivi’s family moved to Southeast Asia, where Aivi took a music technology class and learned about MIDI (Music Instrument Digital Interface). They soon began transcribing MIDI files for the Video Game Music Archive, and composing original electronic music.

As an adult, Aivi continued to study music at the University of California, Davis, and received a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in music theory and composition.
From childhood to present day, they’ve had the privilege of learning from many teachers with a variety of backgrounds and approaches. Their hybrid background in electronic production and classical composition led to their unique musical style, where both duet and intertwine. Additionally, their dual cultural identity as both a Vietnamese and an American influenced the way they intentionally blend genres and sound palettes in their compositions.

In 2020, Aivi injured both of their hands from working under tight deadlines for a composition client. They were unable to compose without physical assistance for 8 months, and only in 2023, they were able to return to playing piano at full capacity. The experience opened their eyes to the working conditions of creative people in entertainment industries. Instead of returning to industry composition work, they started Infloresce Records in 2022 and remain an independent musician to this day.

Outside of music, Aivi enjoys reading books, playing video games, and conscientious art.

They’re married to chiptune composer surasshu and live in California with their child and two cats.
